Malachi had his surgery today. At 6:30 a.m. we reported to the hospital where Malachi would get his tonsils and adenoids out and a second set of tubes put in. He did great...a ton better than we expected!! His tonsils were inlarged and we suspect they are the cause of some obstructive sleep apnea. His tubes will relieve the build up of thick fluid that has been affecting his hearing and his adenoids....well they are gone.
He had a bit of a hard time coming out of anestesia. We think it was a possible reaction to the demerol they gave him for pain. They used the same anestesia as the last time he had tubes put in his ears and it was much harder for him to wake up this time. We are left to assume that it was the demerol. I finally got him calm enough to sleep for about an hour and when he woke up he was much happier. He had an IV and was VERY upset with it. He kept trying to pull it out and boy is he strong. It took both Josh and I to separate his hands. Luckily his bag ran out and the IV got to come out sooner than expected.
So we are home and our under quarentine for the next 10 days. Malachi is already amazing us by eating mac and cheese and jello. He's also up and enjoying being home. I have no idea how we'll keep him down for 3 whole weeks! Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers.
One of the best moments of the entire day was when they were taking Malachi back to surgery. I was holding him and asked him for a kiss. He leaned over to the Dr. Mucha, his ENT, and gave her a kiss! Then I got mine, but he wanted to give her another one. He went to her easily and didn't even cry when they walked away. Now Malachi apparently has a girl friend that is significantly older than him! ha ha ha...
